Virginia High School Rededicates to John Lewis, Dropping Confederate Name

Bovard Scholar Kimberly Boateng and Kadija Ismail were instrumental in the effort to rename their high school to John R. Lewis High School. The high school was also spotlighted in a question on Jeopardy during the week of the renaming ceremony. Contestants were asked “In 2020, Robert E. Lee High School in Springfield, Virginia was renamed for this late Congressman and civil rights icon.”

The answer? “Who is John R. Lewis?”
